~~~~~Read how a couple of your fellow collectors got started!~~~~~
"I was studying art history in Florence, Italy,
and was late for a class being conducted on site
at a famous Renaissance church. I had no materials for
class, but stopped to pick up a pen at a tourist cart
outside the grounds. Since I had little money, I wanted
to make what I spent go a little further and decided on
the humor and wit of a floaty. Within a week, I decided
that pens would be how I commemorated my time in Europe.
Even after, pens have been what I have sought as keepsakes
and memorabilia."
"We were on a tour of Europe that had a contest for the
tackiest souvenir. I purchased my first pen in Pisa, Italy.
It has a family of tourists walking in front of the leaning tower.
I didn't win the contest but I do pick up pens whenever I can now.
I didn't realize they were called 'float pens' or that there were
so many until tonight. My husband is worried."
Which one pen would you choose to keep?
There were many different answers, but the one most frequently
chosen was the HEINZ KETCHUP, conceal/reveal float pen.
Here are a few interesting responses:
CASA BONITA
An ad for a fantastic "cheesey"
Acapulco style restaurant in Denver,
where they perform cliff diving acts nightly.
A cliff diver is shown diving into a pool of water.
LIBYAN ARAB AIRLINES with Arabic writing
Plane moves with world map in background
LEIFUR EIRICKSSON TERMINAL
An airport in Iceland. A bird's eye view of the airport
and floating jet.
SEATLLE ART MUSEUM
"Seatlle" is misspelled.
